I AM A RUNNER….
Haven’t posted in a few days, but only ended up running one time (Friday) while in Atlanta (Thursday to Sunday), so that only made for 11.6 total miles last week. My plan had been to run on both Friday and Saturday, but my legs were so tired from all the walking and standing while we were there that I decided to pass.
This week so far I did a 4-miler on Monday and a 3-miler on Tuesday. Both of these were in the neighborhood around my house and were completed with temps over 70º. I got through both runs just fine, but they were HARD.
Part of this was due to my pace. Until this week I’ve held my pace around 10:00min per mile when running with Brian. However, these two days were both around 9:00min per mile. I know Brian has been running slower than his capability to accommodate my return to running, but I guess when running solo my body is subconsciously trying to go back to where it once was.
It is also amazing how much difference the temperature increase has made. We went from running in the 20s to 40s, to 70s this week, and I’m really feeling it in my heart rate. Finally, I know it is much harder running solo than with friends. Unfortunately Brian is out this week on vacation, and then I’ll be traveling for work next week.
Anyway, my plan is to get in a run Thursday and Saturday for the remainder of the week, and they try to maintain 4 days per week while traveling next week.
Over this past weekend I made the decision that even though I’m not yet training for a race, I’m going to go back on my training diet. I had hoped to get some positive momentum in losing weight just from running, but that is obviously not happening. So, I started back on Monday, and my goal is to lose 20 lbs by July 1. That’s an aggressive goal, but is something I really need to shoot for to get back to where I want to be.

Study of Ecclesiastes
For students in my Wednesday night class on Ecclesiastes, “Questions for Discussion” and notes for the Chapters 8 are now available online. I will NOT be passing out handouts for this class, so these documents are for those who would like a copy of the questions (and my notes) for use in the class. The questions will be displayed on-screen during our time together. Lord willing we will cover these questions tonight at Bellevue Church of Christ! The class will be in the auditorium at 6:45pm.

I AM A RUNNER….
Just finished the 8th run of my comeback this morning. After starting with 4 runs my first week, I only got in 2 last week. I was supposed to run with Brian on Friday but slept through my alarm. Then I was not able to run over the weekend because Olivia was out of town at a retreat. That meant that I only completed 6.4-miles total last week, which is not where I was aiming. Also, after losing 1.5 lbs the first week, I gained it all back plus an additional 1.5 lbs last week. This trend has to change!
So far this week I’m back on track with runs of 4.4-miles (Monday) and 5-miles (Today). Both of these were with Brian in the Bellevue area, and overall I feel surprisingly good. The HOKA ONE ONE Cliftons are working out well so far, and I’m excited to see how they fare on even longer runs once I get back in shape. I’m headed out of town tomorrow morning, but still planning to get in runs on Friday and Saturday.
During our run this morning, Brian and I were sharing marathon stories, and it really brought home to me how much I miss racing. Now I’m trying to decide if I should aim for my comeback marathon this fall or target next spring. Whatever the case….I’ve got a long way to go.
