I haven’t said a lot about this to anybody, but the last 12 months have been a period of big changes in my life. I finally recognized the need for those changes after seeing the picture on the left-side of the image. That is me just after finishing the 2017 Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon last November. Even though I had just finished one of the most grueling road marathons in the country (3,500+ ft. of elevation gain), I could tell by looking at myself that I was not healthy. I’ve seen pictures of myself after finishing a lot of races, and it was immediately obvious to me that this was not the same person I was used to seeing.
At that time, running was the only thing I was doing for my health. Without running, I would have probably weighed 50-lbs more than I did in this picture. My eating was atrocious! I generally felt pretty bad day-to-day, though I wouldn’t admit it to myself. Things needed to change!
That change began in earnest near the end of January when I started LT360. The LT360 program transformed my eating habits, my hydration, and my cross-training activities. My body initially revolted against these changes, but before very long, I felt like a different person (or like the person I used to be). From January until now I’ve lost 40-lbs of fat, put on 6.3-lbs of muscle, and 7.3-lbs of hydration.
Not only did I feel better in day-to-day life, but my training felt completely different than last year. I’m hitting paces in regular training runs and speed workouts that I haven’t hit in years. Today I completed the 2018 Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon with a finish time that was just over 25 minutes faster than last year. It was still brutally hard, but I am thrilled with the results, and with my finish line photo to the right-side of the image.
A big thanks to LT360, and to coach Andrew, for helping me through this transformation! I’m excited about what the future holds!
Marathon no. 16 is in the books….this one, the 2018 Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon. My finish time of 3:45:30 is just over 25-minutes faster than the same race last year. It was brutally hard with 3,500 ft. of elevation gain, but I’m thrilled with the results!
