Considering that Olivia and I have shown no signs of musical ability, we are quite proud of how much progress Kate has made in her piano lessons over the past couple of years. Here are a few short numbers I recorded tonight…Enjoy:
When the Saints Go Marching In (0:31)
Dance Theme – Variation (0:42)
Green Frog Hop (0:33)
I’ve got a lot of great pictures of Kate running, but this one from Sunday’s ING Kids Rock Marathon is by far my favorite! Look at her Go!!
I love the form! I love the intensity! I’m so proud of my Kater Bug!!!
Kate had two pieces of art selected for “Evening with the Arts” at Lipscomb Academy, and they remained on display at the school for the last couple of weeks. All of the selections were made by the art teacher and the world renowned artist Michael Shane Neal. This event ended a few days ago, and we cannot wait to get them framed for display in our home. We are so proud of Kate! Here are the two items selected:
Per Kate, this is a water-color painting where she used salt mixed with blue paint for the ocean water to give it the cool effects. She also used a white crayon for some of the electric “shocks” and bubbles. The painting includes a clown fish in the lower-left, an electric eel in the upper left, and a big puffer fish in the middle. I love this one!
Per Kate, this is a torn paper mosaic made from construction paper. I love the mix of colors she used on this one, and this is also her favorite of the two.
For each Halloween since Sara was born (she’s now 3), our entire family has gone with themed costumes. For example, Harry Potter in 2011:
Well, earlier this month Sara decided she wanted to also do this for our trip to Disney World on fall break next week:
What do you think?
You may or may not know that I’m obsessed with the color red, especially when it comes to running clothes and shoes. Well, with that in mind…
Kate’s school has required uniforms, which are a combination of purple, black, yellow, and white. Last year Kate wore grey Nike Frees, which complimented her uniform very well. Last week Olivia took Kate to buy some new shoes for school, and sometime during the afternoon I got the following text from Olivia…
Even though they clash horribly with her uniform, I thought they were great…
Well, today when I saw Kate after she had dressed for school…
I thought her shoes were awesome, and was immediately reminded of one of our family’s favorite children’s books featuring Pete the Cat…
And today Kate was DEFINITELY Rocking in Her School Shoes!! Wear ‘em proudly honey!
A few weeks ago our good friend Ashley with Dogwoods and Dragonflies took family portraits of us on the stone steps at Percy Warner Park. She is an amazing photographer, and I LOVE this picture of Kate and Sara. I had to share!
You can see the whole album here.
After a great day with the family, which included family pictures in Percy Warner Park and a fabulous dinner at Mere Bulles, Kate is now laying in the bed, pitiful, and shivering with a 102 degree fever. Get well soon my little Kater Bug!
Whats the Green Team?
David….Kate’s school can get funding from external companies (like Disney) and other organizations by implementing and maintaining certain environmental programs within the school (like recycling). Two students are selected from each class and given the opportunity to be on the “Green Team” which helps with these programs. Kate was one of the two selected for this year from her class, and I believe she has already been invited to be on the team next year as well.
