Video: Timothy Agee plays medley of Jack White guitar riffs at Bellevue Church of Christ Talent Show
In August 2013, one of my best friends passed away suddenly. His name was Kerry Anderson, and he owned a LOT of guitars. A few months after his death, his parents, Neil and Glenda Anderson, gave me one of his guitars. Prior to that day, I don’t think I had ever even held a guitar, much less played one. I treasured the gift greatly and promised them that I would learn to play.
Well, tonight I played the guitar in public for the first time in my life. It was at the Bellevue Church of Christ Talent Show, and I participated to honor Kerry and the awesome gift from Neil and Glenda. I decided to do a medley of guitar riffs from Jack White since he is my favorite modern guitar player, and because I’ve spent a lot of time practicing songs from The White Stripes and his solo work.
This was the most nervous I have been in a LONG time, and my hands where shaking the whole time. However, I made it through it, and am mostly pleased with how it went. Thanks for everyone for their kind words after the show.
Here’s a rundown of the songs in the medley:
- Sixteen Saltines
- Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground
- Fell In Love With a Girl
- Blue Orchid
- Seven Nation Army
- Hardest Button to Button
- Icky Thump
Sara playing “Eleanor Rigby” by the Beatles on piano for the World Music Nashville Student Concert….This is from a couple of weeks ago, but I’m very delinquent in posting!
Kate got a new Casio Privia PX-350 keyboard for her 11th birthday, and this was the first thing she played (with everybody staring at her)!
Kate and I decided to have a little fun tonight and “perform” Happy Birthday for Sara’s 6th birthday party. Enjoy!
Kate as Reba McEntire in the Lipscomb Academy 4th Grade Play on May 5, 2015. She did great singing “Crazy” along with Patsy Cline on the Grand Ole Opry.
This video is from Kate’s piano recital tonight at World Music Nashville. She played “The Storm,” and we are very proud of her!
Today Sara got to sing a short solo during The Three Little Kittens that was performed at Lipscomb Academy Seed School’s Grandparent Day.
My 10 Favorite Albums of 2014
I ended up spending a lot more time in 2014 focused on music rather than running. This has mostly manifested itself in learning to play guitar / bass and also in listening to a LOT of music on vinyl. I love vinyl, and I’ve found that spending time in record stores like Grimey’s, Third Man Records, and The Groove has exposed me to a lot more of what is out there than browsing in iTunes. Because I’ve spent so much time listening to music this past year, I decided to think through my favorite albums of 2014. Even now, there were still records released in 2014 that I’m really interested in, but have not yet had a chance to listen to. These would include albums like Morning Phase from Beck and Lost in a Dream by The War on Drugs.
With that being said, below is the list that I came up with. All of these are from musicians that write their own songs (very important to me) and released their albums on vinyl (not sure if I purchased any albums in 2014 that were only released digitally). Some of these are from musicians I’ve followed for years, and some are from groups that I became aware of in 2014.
Stellar performance of The Beatle’s Here Comes the Sun by Paul Simon on Conan O’Brien for “George Harrison Week.” Love It!!
Great video from CBS This Morning on the resurgence of Vinyl Records. Nashville is featured prominently in the story, and the best thing is that it highlights my favorite record store, Grimey’s, and my favorite current band, The Black Keys. Very cool. Check it out…
JUNE 13, 2014, 6:23 AM | As the age old adage goes, what’s old becomes new again, and yes — vinyl is back. Anthony Mason, anchor of “CBS This Morning Saturday,” reports from Nashville where he speaks with the Black Keys about how this unique sound is coming full circle.
Sara has only heard this song from LINKIN PARK a handful of times, but as of her second listen she has been screaming out the chorus at the top of her lungs. Decided that we had to capture a bit of the entertainment for the whole world to enjoy. She’s a little iffy on the lyrics for the verses.
